5 Easy Ways to Make Your House Safe Before the Unthinkable Happens

Falls are the number one cause of injuries for senior citizens. That means preventing falls in your household should be at the top of your priority list. Here are 6 easy tips for preventing senior citizen falls and to keep your home safe.

1. In the Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the slipperiest places in the house. You easily can add high-grip rubber mats on the shower floor, and bath mats on the rest of the floors so slips don’t happen. Other items like grab bars, shower chairs, sliding transfer benches, long shower handles, and commodes can make life safer too.

2. Tripping Hazards Around the House

Avoid wearing loosely fitting shoes since they can be a tripping hazard. If you like rugs in your house, try using double-sided tape to secure them. Otherwise, it’s best to get rid of the rugs altogether.
